Marcus Smith is a US Army Veteran who was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment in Fort Lewis, Washington. He is a graduate of the US Army Ranger School and left the Army as a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO). Marcus was hired by the Sheriff’s Office in January 2002 after serving in the US Army.

Marcus attended the Yuba College Police Academy and had to stay in a live-in dorm for six months. After graduating from the academy, he was assigned to Court Services for the first four months. He was then sent to Patrol so he could complete the Field Training Program. Marcus worked several years on Patrol and requested to work in the most active areas. He was asked to work the contract City of Lathrop working on patrol and ultimately assigned to the Gang Unit. Marcus also worked in the Investigations Division as a detective for five years before promoting to Sergeant.

As a Sergeant, Marcus worked as a Patrol Supervisor, Case Management Unit Supervisor as one of the original AGNET Sergeants. He was also assigned to the Professional Standards Division, where he was assigned as the office Safety Officer, Training Coordinator, and Supervisor of the Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) program, to name just a few of his duties.

As a Lieutenant, Marcus worked in the Patrol Division as a Watch Commander. He also worked in our Special Services Division and oversaw the Community Car Unit, Community Revitalization Unit, Airport Security, School Resource Deputy, and Motor Unit.

Marcus is a past member of the Sheriff SWAT Team, where he spent 18 years of his career as an operator and Team Leader.

Marcus has been married to his beautiful wife, Lileana for 22 years, and they have three children together: Melanie, Matthew, and Madison.
