James Boles joined the Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff in 2005 after going through the Academy. In 2007, he was assigned as a Field Training Officer to the Field Training Program and did that for three years. In 2010, Boles was assigned as a Detective to the SJC Metro Narcotics Task Force. In 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to Patrol. A year later, in 2017, he transferred to the Detective Bureau and was assigned as the supervisor of the Child Abuse Sexual Assault Unit. In 2020 Boles transferred to the Internal Affairs Unit as an Investigator where he was then promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and initially assigned to the Patrol Division as a Watch Commander. From there he was transferred to Patrol Administration as a District Commander overseeing Animal Services, Community Revitalization Unit, Marijuana/Hemp Ordinance Enforcement Team, Encampment Response Team, and as the liaison to San Joaquin County Mental Health. Lieutenant Boles is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree at Union Insitute and University majority in Law Enforcement Management. He is a graduate of Sherman Block Supversiory Leadership Institute and earned the California POST Advanced Certificate.
